How To Cook A Whole Chicken With Homemade Stuffing

RECIPE How To Cook A Whole Chicken With Homemade Stuffing

Serves 5-7 people

Butter Herb Rub Ingredients

1-2 sticks organic butter (softened) depending on how big your bird is, mine was 3 lbs so I used 1 stick

2 cloves of garlic (minced)

2 sprigs of rosemary

Salt & pepper to taste

Homemade Stuffing Ingredients

1 3-4 lb whole organic chicken or turkey

1 loaf bread of choice

3 celery sticks

1 onion chopped

3 cloves of garlic chopped

1 tbsp dried rosemary

2 tsp dried parsley

2 tsp dried thyme

Salt & pepper to taste

3 eggs

1 cup chicken broth or water

Preparation

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Start by making your butter herb rub. This will go all over the top of the bird and add lots of flavor to it. Add all ingredients together and mix. Set aside until your ready to rub it all over the bird and throw in the oven.

  1. To make your stuffing take the loaf of bread (whatever type of bread you like) and rip it into small pieces. Put in a bowl and let sit overnight so it dries the bread out.

  2. Then once you're ready to stuff your bird you will want to chop and cook your onions, celery, and garlic. Saute in a pan with 1 TBSP butter until they are soft.

  3. Add the onion, celery, garlic mixture to your bread mixture then add your herbs as well.

  4. Now add your eggs and chicken broth or water. Mix until incorporated. Now you are ready to stuff the bird!

Cook Time: Whole Chicken/Turkey

  1. Take your out of the package and gently rinse it in filtered water and gently pat dry with some paper towels. (make sure before rinsing you remove the giblets and anything that might be inside the cavity)

  2. Season the bird generously with salt and pepper, and inside the cavity as well.

  3. Now take your stuffing mixture and start stuffing the cavity until full. You should be able to fit most of it in, but if it won’t all fit you can just leave the rest on the side of the bird.

  4. Now your ready to put your butter herb rub on the top of the bird. With your hands or a spatula spread the butter herb rub all over the top of the turkey. You want to lather it in butter.

  5. Cook in the oven for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, (again, my bird was only about 3-4 lbs so yours might be different if it's bigger than that). It might be done before that so check the bird at 1 hour and see how it’s doing. Then remove from the oven and cool before slicing!

  6. (Cook times will vary depending on the size of your bird-for cooking times refer to google)

*Use Organic Ingredients when feasible
