RECIPE Homemade Naan Bread
Ingredients
1/2 c warm water
1 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
1 Tbsp honey
3/4 tsp sea salt
1 Tbsp olive oil
1/3 c coconut milk cream or yogurt
2 c organic all purpose flour + 1/4 c for sprinkling
Fine sea salt and garlic powder for sprinkling
Preparation
Start by putting your warm water in a bowl with the yeast. Add your honey and salt, mix together. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes so that the yeast will bloom.
Now add your olive oil and coconut cream or yogurt.
Add your flour and mix until it forms a ball. Knead with your hands for about 5-6 minutes. You can use a stand mixer if you’d like for this part but I find it easier and less dishes to just knead it by hand.
Once you're done kneading it, place in a bowl in a warm place for 1 hour. It should double in size.
Then divide the dough into 6 even portions. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough flat like a pancake. Sprinkle more flour as needed.
Now you're ready to cook the dough. Take your cast iron skillet and turn the heat to medium, let the pan get hot for 5 minutes before you put the dough on it. Use a little butter so that the dough doesn’t stick to the pan.
Cook on 1 side for 2-3 minutes and then flip and cook another 1-2 minutes on the other side.
On the last side you cook I like to add butter on top, a sprinkle of salt and a sprinkle of garlic powder. This will give your Naan the best flavor ever!
You could also chop up fresh garlic if you’d like. Add any other fresh herbs to the top and it’s ready to serve. Enjoy!
Tips:
*If using coconut cream make sure to put a can of coconut milk in the fridge at least 4-5 hours before so it gets solid. Then scoop the cream from the can into your yeast mixture.
*Use organic ingredients when feasible
