RECIPE Homemade Corn Tortillas
Ingredients
2 cups organic white corn masa
1 tsp sea salt
2 tsp olive or avocado oil
1 ¼ c warm water
Preparation
In a large bowl measure out your organic masa, add salt, oil and warm water to the bowl.
Mix until a soft ball forms. Once you have formed a ball let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
After the dough has rested for 10 minutes use a cast iron tortilla press to make your tortillas flat. Form about 12-14 1 inch balls with your hands.
Place parchment paper above and below on the tortilla press before you use it to press down the tortilla’s (this will help it not to stick to the cast iron tortilla press.
Press your tortilla dough until you don’t have any more dough left.
Meanwhile, heat up your flat cast iron skillet on medium heat. Add a little avocado oil to the bottom of the pan. When the pan is hot enough place the pressed dough on the skillet to cook. Let each side of the tortilla cook for about 1 minute, then flip over. I can usually fit 2-3 tortilla’s on my 10 inch cast iron skillet.
Add more oil to the pan as needed so the tortilla’s don’t stick as your cooking all of them. Once you have cooked all the tortilla’s your ready to eat!
